Apex Astral and a Romance That Cost $128,900 — 58% Recovered in Tampa
A patient online relationship was the setup; Apex Astral, an “exclusive” trading platform, was the payload. We recovered 58% — a credible number that shows both what fast on-chain work can claw back and where the trail thins.
ABackground
Our client met someone online and exchanged messages daily for months. In time he introduced Apex Astral, a platform he claimed to use personally for strong returns.
Initial deposits showed small, steady gains and one successful small withdrawal — the trust anchor. Deposits then escalated, first by bank wire and later in USDT “for faster settlement.”
BWhere it turned
When our client tried to withdraw a meaningful sum, Apex Astral demanded a “capital gains withholding” before release. The account was locked when she questioned it, and the man she had been speaking to went quiet.
This is pig-butchering: the relationship is the long con, Apex Astral is the cash-out. By the time it surfaces, much of the money has already been layered through crypto.
I trusted a person, not a website. Apex Astral was just where the money went.— Carol M., Tampa, FL
COur engagement
- 01Intake and timeline
We documented the relationship, the Apex Astral account, and every transaction into one evidenced timeline for banks and exchanges.
- 02On-chain tracing
The USDT was traced to two exchange deposit addresses; a smaller share had been routed through a mixing step.
- 03Wire recall attempt
We pursued a recall and fraud claim on the bank wires with the sending institution.
- 04Exchange freeze
Freeze requests were filed against the traceable exchange deposits before off-ramping.
- 05Reconciliation
We recovered the traceable share and the partial wire claim, and were candid about the portion that had been mixed.
$74,800 — about 58% — was recovered from traceable exchange deposits and a partial wire claim. The funds moved fastest after the lock were the hardest to reach.
DRisk indicators
- A romance that stays online — no real-time video, never meets.
- An “exclusive” platform introduced by a partner or friend.
- Small early wins and one easy withdrawal to build trust.
- A “tax” or “withholding” demanded before any withdrawal.
- Escalating deposits, especially a switch to stablecoins.
